Several Rover branches have strongly supported Rover Cars’ imaginative “Career Challenge”, launched in 1990, a major million-pound educational and training scheme, to promote the skills of young people and to encourage them to consider technical careers in the “World of Rover Cars” and in the after sales side of the business. Caffyns and Rover Cars jointly donated Challenge Karts to six secondary schools throughout East Sussex. These Karts formed the basis of an ongoing skills programme -teams from each school developed the Karts (which can achieve 35mph) to explore various aspects of vehicle technology. The liaison between Caffyns’ branch in Upperton Road, Eastbourne and Ratton Secondary School has been particularly successful Ratton’s team became UK National Champions in 1994 and were awarded the National Finals prize for the best presentation in1995.
