How Motability Scheme works
The Motability Car Scheme is designed to improve mobility and use of cars for people who are disabled or wheelchair users and their families. With Motability you simply exchange your mobility allowance – either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (currently £49.85 a week) or the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (currently £55.65 a week) – for a brand new car.
Your allowance will go directly to Motability, in exchange for a car. Included with the car is a whole host of benefits, so the only thing you actually need to budget for is your fuel.

Am I eligible for the Motability Car Scheme?
The Motability Car Scheme is open to anyone who receives one of the following benefits:
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
- War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement
No waiting lists. No credit checks. No assessments required.
With the Contract Hire package you don't need to drive. You can nominate up to two drivers who may be friends or relatives, and parents or carers can apply on behalf of a child aged three years and upwards.
Please note that if you choose the Contract Hire scheme you must have at least 12 months' award length remaining. For customers choosing to buy a car with a Hire Purchase agreement, it is normally expected that you will be receiving the allowance for the full length of the agreement.

How do I get a car through Motability scheme?
| There are two main ways in which Motability can turn your mobility allowance into the travel solution for your needs. - A new car on a three-year contract hire lease. - A new or used car on hire purchase, over a term of two to five years. 95% of Motability customers get their Motability cars through a 3-year hire lease. |

If you prefer to buy your own car, in which case our Hire Purchase scheme might be for you. If you choose Hire Purchase, you negotiate the actual purchase price with your Motability car dealer. With Hire Purchase, you will also be responsible for organising and paying for comprehensive insurance, breakdown recovery, your car tax disc, servicing and repairs.
