Audi Celebrates Fourth Victory for the R8 LMS in Two Weeks
Within just 14 days, Audi Sport has enjoyed four major victories in Europe’s most important GT3 racing series.
After winning the GT World Challenge Europe season opener two weeks ago, the Audi R8 LMS has also won the season opener of the ADAC GT Masters and in the Sprint Series of the Italian GT Championship in one race each. The Audi R8 LMS GT4 also gained trophies in America, Germany and France, whilst the Audi RS 3 LMS wins both rounds of TCR Italy at Misano.
Audi R8 LMS GT3
Two teams from Audi Sport customer racing collected trophies at the ADAC GT Masters season opener. In the first race, Montaplast by Land-Motorsport was the best of eight Audi customer teams. Sunday’s race Team WRT clinched a debut victory in the German racing series, whilst the Belgian team won its first race in the Super Sports Car League from pole position. With 13 cars in the field of 33 sports cars from seven manufacturers, the Audi R8 LMS is by far the most popular model in the ADAC GT Masters again this year.
Daniel Mancinelli and Riccardo Agostini helped to win the first print weekend at the Italian GT Championship. Winning the first race by 2.1 seconds, they started Sunday in a strong position with 15 additional seconds of pit stop time. Mancinelli improved to fourth place, earning them 12 points – with an overall lead by ten points.
Audi R8 LMS GT2
Audi Sport customer racing presented the R8 LMS GT at the GT2 Media Day in Belgium. Audi Sport brought two examples of its racing car and interested customer racing drivers tested the car, whilst professional drivers Eric van de Poele and Sam Dejonghe used the opportunity to track test the R8 LMS GT2 for two magazines. The model covered almost 380km on this day alone.
Audi R8 LMS GT4
After three of 10 rounds of the GS season, Tyler McQuarrie and Jeff Westphal remain championship leaders with a three-point lead. The R8 LMS GT4 also clinched victory in the French club sport racing series Trophee Tourisme Endurance. The Milan Competition team won the T5 category with Pierre Arraou and Denis Gibaud at the Albi circuit, achieving second place overall out of 23 teams. Team Giti Tire Motorsport by WS Racing also clinched class victory with the model t the Nurburgring Endurance Series fourth round.
Audi RS S LMS (TCR)
Eric Brigliadori finished second at the second event of TCR Italy, before eventually being awarded victory after the first place Hyundai driver was ruled out due to a technical offence. In the second sprint, Eric won under his own steam, moving him up to second place overall in the standings after two of six events.
Long standing customer team Bonk Motorsport collected another trophy on the Nordschleife, clinching third place in the SP3T class in a field of nine contenders.
Races continue throughout the next few months across the globe, including USA, Russia and Fuji.
