Audi Production Gradually Restarts In Europe

Audi has taken the decision to gradually restart the production process at its plants in Europe over the next coming weeks.

“On the way back to the first phase after the production shutdown, health precautions for the protection of the employees have the highest priority. The restart will be accompanied by a comprehensive pack of measure to ensure that the employees’ health is protected”, explained Charmain of the Work Council Peter Mosch.

There has been a strong focus on creating a safe working environment and comprehensive measures are in place to ensure that Audi are following the guidelines and regulations. Audi has clear rules on distancing, hygiene, plus a modified shift system has been introduced to avoid contact. They have also implemented the obligation to use mouth and nose protection when in areas where distances of 1.5 meters apart are not possible. On the production lines physical barriers have been added, allowing two employees to work on the same transport rack and stand directly opposite each other with a transparent barrier made of plastic sheeting acting as protection.

Board of Management Member of Production Peter Kossler comments on the new safety measures, “The focus is on the employees, because they need a safe working environment. Audi teams of experts have therefore adapted processes with a view to health protection in consultation with the specialist departments and works councils. I would like to thank all Audi employees and our partners around the world for their flexibility and joint efforts in time like these”.

Audi has developed solutions for all areas the employees will enter including group spaces, factory gates, parking spaces, internal factory traffic and catering. Managers of production sections and groups have worked together with occupational safety, health care and other groups to analyse the areas and developed suggestions for improvements to create a “corona-ready” working environment.

Vehicle production at the Audi sites will increase from the end of April onwards according to a fixed plan.
