Audi RS 3 LMS Wins in FIA WTCR
Frédéric Vervisch and Comtoyou Team Audi Sport have enjoyed their first win of the season at the Slovakiaring.
The win is the seventh overall for the Audi RS 3 LMS in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup. Earning the team 74 points, all four Audi Sport drivers earned points for the first time.
The race weekend was the third of 2019 and Frédéric got off to a great start from ninth place on a damp track in race one. In the first lap alone, he overtook seven rivals. After a breathtaking charge in lap five, he swept past the leading car, claiming his second WTCR victory. Thanks to the results of the other three Audi Sport drivers, the marque has experienced the most successful FIA WTCR weekend so far this year.
Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing commented: “Frédéric Vervisch and the entire team of Jean-Michel Baert have done an impressive job – congratulations. In addition to the first win of the season, we’re also thrilled with the performance of the other three Audi Sport drivers. For the first time, all of our drivers have finished in the points on one weekend. It’s very pleasing to see the Niels Langeveld’s improving form.”
Like Vervisch, Jean-Karl Vernay also made a good start into the race. He improved from seventh to position four, whilst teammate Gordon Shedden improved from 16th to finish 12th. In the second race, Langeveled finished eight, making him the best Audi Sport driver for the first time this year. Gordon Shedden was the only other Audi Sport driver to harvest points from all three races.
The team’s next racing outing is next weekend, which is to take place in Zandvoort, Netherlands. This, the fourth of ten race weekends, is the home event for Niels Langeveld who grew up just 25 kilometers from the circuit.
