New Audi A8 Predictive Active Suspension
Audi is now offering another high-tech innovation for the Audi A8 – predictive active suspension.
Depending on the setting, predictive active suspension offers the same ride comfort of a chauffeur-driven limousine and the firm handling of a sports car. The system can lift up or force down each of the luxury sedan’s wheels individually, to actively manage the body’s ride height in every situation.
This active suspension system can lift or lower the body by up to 85 millimetres within just five-tenths of a second, meaning this new technology works almost instantly so the driver can enjoy the most intuitive driving experience yet.
When used in conjunction with the air suspension and Audi drive select dynamic handling system (both standard on the A8), the new predictive active suspension system offers an exceptional driving spectrum no matter what mode the car is in – from ‘dynamic’ to ‘comfort plus’.
Predictive active suspension also helps to increase the car’s safety in combination with the ‘pre-sense 360’ safety system. It operates in conjunction with the central driver assistance system, which uses the merged sensor data to identify hazardous situations around the car. If there is an impending side impact at more than 25km/h, the active suspension raises the body by up to 80 millimetres on the side of the impact. This brings the sill into a better position to absorb the impact energy.
Customers in Europe can order predictive active suspension in the Audi A8 from August 2019.
