Audi Confirms Electrification Strategy

At the recent Annual General Meeting of Audi AG, the Board of Management presented their updated ‘Audi.Vorsprung.2025’ electrification strategy. In the strategy, the board explained that Audi are aiming to sell an estimated 800,000 fully electric cars and plug-in hybrids in the year 2025. By the middle of the next decade, Audi aims to have an electrified variant of each model in the range, most of which will be fully electric with a smaller selection being plug-in hybrids.

Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi AG, said: “Our ambition has always been and will continue to be Vorsprung durch Technik. Our goal is to revolutionise mobility. Also in electric mobility, we want to become the Number 1 among the premium manufacturers – with full suitability for everyday use, no compromises, top quality and driving pleasure for the customer. With our technological excellence, we are utilising our Vorsprung and liftin electric mobility to the next level.”

The first step of this initiative is already in action, with the production version of the Audi e-tron prototype. Following this, more than 20 electrified models will be released in rapid succession until 2025. The Audi e-tron Sportback will be the second fully electric car to be launched by the brand, followed by the e-tron GT from Audi Sport in 2020 along with an electric model in the premium compact segment.

Once the Audi e-tron has been released, it will be the first car that car be rapidly charged at stations with up to 150kW, meaning it will be ready to undertake a long distance in just 30 minutes with a lithium-ion battery that can travel more than 400 kilometers.

A member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Audi AG, Peter Mertens, commented: “Just in time for the 50th anniversary of Vorsprung durch Technik, we will also present our first autonomous electric car based on our Audi Aicon show car in 2021. An interurban shuttle with lounge character – initially in a pilot fleet and around the middle of the decade as a series-production car for automated driving.”
