Audi Racing Drivers Thrill Crowd At GP Ice Race

At the recent GP Ice Race in Austria, Formula E Teams’ Champion Daniel Abt and DTM Champion René Rast braved the snow, ice and freezing temperatures in their race cars. Rally legend Walter Röhrl and freestyle skiing star Benedikt Mayr were also in action for Audi Sports.

The Audi Sport quattro, Audi Sport RS 5 DTM and Audi e-tron FE04 thrilled the large crowd as they watched the race. The latter two models had studded tyres for the very first time, helping them to navigate the slippery and unpredictable track.

Daniel Abt drove the Audi e-tron FE04, with which the Audi Sport ABT Shaeffler team had won the ABB Formula E Championship title in 2017/18. René Rast was at the wheel of his RS 5 DTM, whilst Walter Röhrl drove the Audi Sport quattro – a truly historic model.

About the event, Daniel Abt commented: “This was a super-nice weekend with a fantastic atmosphere and fantastic people. It was the first time for me to drive a Formula E car on ice. A cool feeling!

“It was incredibly good fun – also seeing the fans when you set yourself up for the corners and then drift through them. I hope that I’ll have the opportunity to take part in the event again next year.”
