First Glance At Vauxhall's First Electric Car: The Corsa-e
Leading the Vauxhall ‘PACE!’ strategic plan, aimed to reduce CO2, the all new Vauxhall Corsa-e is set to be available this year, followed by the Grandland X PHEV. In their mission to offer an electric version of all their vehicles, Vauxhall is starting the initiative with one of the brands most recognisable models. Vauxhall plan to electrify every model in their range by 2024.
The Vauxhall Corsa has sold over 2.1 million units in the UK since its launch in 1993, making it Vauxhall’s best-selling model. With a reputable name and appearance, the Corsa has been a staple in the Vauxhall range for many years. Also popular in Europe, the Corsa has an outstanding 13.5 million sales under its belt.
As Vauxhall’s first electric model, the Corsa is an obvious choice to lead the electric motion. With well-known compact dimensions and impressive interior packaging, the electric Corsa-e model is everything you’d expect from the iconic Corsa, with all the benefits of an electric vehicle.
Boasting a 205-mile range, the Corsa-e is exceptionally efficient for a vehicle of its class. In Eco mode, the range can be extended by an outstanding 40%, making the electric city car even more desirable. With a rapid-charge station, the Corsa-e can reach 80% battery capacity in 30 minutes. What’s more, the electric propulsion system enables 136hp and 260Nm of torque, gliding the Corsa-e to 31mph in just 2.8 seconds.
Offering three different driving modes – Normal, Eco and Sport, the Corsa-e provides an efficient and performance enhancing driving experience, depending on the conditions. The 205-mile range according to WLTP is measured in the Normal mode. Sport mode adapts responsiveness whilst delivering enhanced performance, without compromise to comfort. Whereas, Eco mode can increase the range by 40% when compared to Sport mode. The Corsa-e also features the regenerative braking system which recovers lost energy when braking or during deceleration, storing energy in the battery for later use.
Inside, the new Corsa-e offers a number of impressive driver assistance and safety systems, making every journey safer and more enjoyable. The infotainment system offers an outstanding 7” or 10” colour touchscreen which offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities. Inclusive of Live Navigation, direct connection with roadside assistance and emergency call functionality, the infotainment system offers much more than just standard connectivity. With an emergency red button, seatbelt tensioners or airbag deployment, an emergency call is automatically activated, adding extra peace-of-mind for everyone on board.
What’s more, the advanced camera and optional radar technology offer a safer, more relaxed driving experience. With Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keep Assist, Side Blind Spot Alert, Drowsiness Detection and two options of emergency braking systems via camera and radar technology, the Corsa-e offers more safety features than ever before. Moreover, the Corsa-e offers parking aid via parking pilots and a Panorama Rear View Camera for additional parking assistance, so you can be sure you can manoeuvre any space no matter the circumstances.
With sales for the fifth generation Corsa and new Corsa-e starting this summer, Vauxhall will deliver their usual balance between sporty and stylish design with exceptional comfort. With all new lightweight engineering, the new model has a weight reduction of more than 10% in comparison to its successor. With tests and tuning being carried out in extreme weather conditions, the new model is being prepared for its launch later this year.
