ŠKODA Sponsors IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship
This year, ŠKODA is proudly sponsoring the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship for the 27th time – a continuing world record for the longest sponsorship of a world championship.
As the event’s mobility partner, ŠKODA is supporting event organisers with a fleet of 50 vehicles, most notably the SUV models KODIAQ and KAROQ. The revised flagship SUPERB will also be on show during the event, getting its world premiere on the day of the quarter finals on 23rd May.
This year’s event will take place between 10th – 26th May in Bratislava and Kosice, returning to Slovakia for the first time in eight years. The world’s top 16 national teams will be competing at arenas in both cities.
ŠKODA’s logo will be featuring on the boards and on the ice at the arenas, whilst three of their models will be placed next to the rink – the KAMIQ, SCALA and KODIAQ RS, showing audiences the wide range of vehicles available from the brand. The Hockey World Championships are expected to be watched by more than one billion fans this year.
As well as the main event, ŠKODA is the exclusive partner of the IIHF iOS and Android app. The app allows hockey fans to explore statistics, background stories and more. It also features a goal alert and a chance for users to predict game outcomes, giving fans from around the world a chance to get involved in the action.
ŠKODA is the best-selling car brand in host country Slovakia, making this year’s event even more special than usual. 21,900 models were delivered in 2018, with the most popular being the FABIA, OCTAVIA and RAPID.
