New ŠKODA Traffication Infotainment App

ŠKODA has become the first manufacturer to launch a Traffication app, which provides early alerts and important information to drivers on traffic issues and hazards.

One of the most stand out features on the app is intelligent software that can issue a warning when the driver attempts to enter a motorway slip road in the wrong direction. Before launching the app, ŠKODA surveyed 2,000 drivers about road issues and 26% of participants admitted to having driven the wrong direction down a road at least once, with 15% repeating the error multiple times. 41% of respondents said they knew someone who had made the mistake, with 65% of people having witnessed another driver doing it.

As well as alerting drivers to their own mistakes, the app can cleverly draw attention to dangers developing ahead. When in use, the vehicle’s infotainment display notifies the diver they are about to encounter a traffic hazard. An early warning is displayed when the app detects stationary vehicles with their hazard warning lights flashing

The traffication app, which always runs in the background, can also complement the existing infotainment system’s navigation function, displaying information on traffic conditions on screen without distracting the driver from the road.

The app is now available for vehicles equipped with the top infotainment systems based on the third-generation Modular Infotainment Matrix. It is compatible with the Columbus system in the SUPERB, KAROQ and KODIAQ, and the Amundsen system in the SCALA and KAMIQ and will be made available to other models late this year.

Installing the app can be done from within the vehicle, via the Shop. Further upgrades and development plans are already in place, including displaying messages about the weather and road conditions, plus the option for the system to read notifications out loud. With future updates, drivers will also be able to report road issues themselves to help other drivers.
