New Polo Wins World Urban Car of the Year

The World Car Awards were presented at the recent New York International Auto Show and the new Volkswagen Polo took home the prestigious ‘World Urban Car of the Year’ title. More than 80 international motoring journalists from 24 countries are on the judging panel and passed their votes on the best models in the world auto market.

Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen’s Design team, collected the award on behalf of the new Polo and said: “Volkswagen is proud of this award for the Polo, which is one of the most successful small and compact vehicles in the world, with more than 14 million units sold. The sixth model generation, which started in autumn 2017, is even more mature and sportier than its predecessors.”

The new Polo is based on Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB), which makes it possible to offer a wide range of drive systems. The updated engine range includes the numerous standard petrol and diesel engines, plus the new Polo TGI3 engine that is powered by natural gas.

As one of the most advanced small cars in the world, the new Polo offers a great range of driver assistance systems as standard and optional extras. As standard, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, speed limiter and Front Assist air monitoring system with City Emergency Braking System and Pedestrian Monitoring are offered. Extra systems including Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert and Park Assist are available in optional safety packs.

The World Urban Car of the Year is voted on based on how well-suited vehicles are for heavy traffic areas of large cities and metropolitan locations. The eight candidates that were considered for this award were extensively tested by the selection and evaluation committee.
