Polestar 2 To Be Debuted At Geneva Motor Show 2019
Volvo’s performance brand, Polestar, is set to reveal the Polestar 2 imminently.
The Polestar 2 is their upcoming electric four-door coupe, which is set for release in the second half of 2019 and will be debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The brand recently released their first official teaser image of the Polestar 2, which shows a birds-eye view of the model’s boot lid, with a modern-looking light bar stretching all the way across the back, curving round slightly. There is also darkened glass stretching to the top of the image.
Polestar’s chief executive, Thomas Ingenlath, has revealed “Polestar 2 will join the competition with Tesla Model 3, so people should have an understanding of the size and the price tag as well. It will start around €40,000 (£35,000).”
Not much other information has been released so far, however we do know that the Polestar 2 and every Polestar thereafter will be pure electric.
Speaking at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Polestar COO Jonathan Goodman discussed their thoughts behind its design, explaining “[EVs] is a market worth 30m cars within seven years, it isn’t going to be niche, it’s going to be mainstream. So you just design a great-looking car – not one with a big blue flash down the side.
“Electric cars will be just as appealing to young executives as they are to retirees. It’s a new market, and purchase intentions will vary. So we’ve got to be a welcoming brand that’s not geeky, cliquey or judgmental.”
Polestar is also set to offer customers a different way to purchase their vehicles in addition to the usual options. Buyers will be able to pay a flat rate monthly fee via a subscription service that covers the cost of the car, servicing and insurance over a two or three year period.
