SEAT Celebrates 69 Years By Showcasing Vision For Electric Mobility At The Automobile Barcelona
SEAT is celebrating 69 years of history with attendance at the 100th edition of the Automobile Barcelona. The brand showcased its vision of electric mobility with two new concept cars. The SEAT el-Born – the brand’s first ever fully electric vehicle, and the SEAT Minimó, aiming to become the companion of cities and revolutionise urban mobility. CUPRA is also displaying the brand’s own first model, the new Formentor, as well as the e-Racer.
“The auto industry is undergoing a process of transformation and is facing the biggest challenge in its over 100 years of history. We are at our best moment and with these launches can look to the future with confidence and lead the transformation facing the sector.”
SEAT CEO, Luca de Meo
Alongside all the Volkswagen Group brands, SEAT is displaying its range, demonstrating the strength of the motor group and its vision of future mobility.
During the two weeks of the event, the general public will be able to test drive the new Tarraco, the Arona TGI, the Ibiza, the recently presented CUPRA Ateca and even its first solution for urban micromobility, the SEAT eXS KickScooter powered by Segway.
The first SEAT electric vehicle, the el-Born concept car is scheduled for market launch in 2020. Becoming the second brand in the Volkswagen group to make a model on the MEB platform, the SEAT assembly line is set to roll out a new cohort of vehicles built on the market’s most forward-thinking electric and connectivity technology.
With thanks to its 58 kWh battery, the concept car offers a practical range of between 300 and 420 km, travelling beyond city limits. Being compatible with direct current superchargers of 100 kW, the SEAT el-Born will generate at least 260km worth of energy in only 30 minutes.
* All SEAT el-Born technical data is provisional and subject to revision.
Presented at the most recent edition of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the SEAT Minimó combines the comfort and safety of a car with the agility of a motorcycle. This new concept demonstrates SEAT’s commitment to urban micromobility. The company is continuing to develop the model to suit the needs of cities, prior to its possible market launch. With the launch of the SEAT eXS KickScooter powered by SEGWAY, along with this concept car, the company is taking a lead in the urban micromobility strategy for the Volkswagen Group.
Since operating as an independent brand, after only one year, CUPRA is presenting the Formentor concept car in Barcelona – being the first model the brand has developed. The concept model is designed to drive the brand into the future. With a high-performance plug-in hybrid engine with output complying with current performance and efficiency requirements, set to launch in 2020, the Formentor will signal the beginning of the brand’s electrification of commercial vehicles.
The first fully electric racing touring car, the e-Racer, will also be available to view at the motor show. Offering 300 kW of continuous power with up to 500 kW (680 PS) of peak power, reaching a top speed of 270 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.2 seconds or from 0 to 200 km/h in just 8.2 seconds.
