The Launch Of The New Volkswagen Golf Variant & Golf Alltrack

Developed with the success of the previous generations of the Golf, Volkswagen are launching two new Golf estate models, both adding improved space and intelligence. The Golf Variant will cover the compact estate market in the Volkswagen line up, whilst the Golf Alltrack handles the off-road terrain with all-wheel drive, featuring aspects of the famous Volkswagen SUVs. With pre-sales already launched in Germany, the rest of Europe is soon to follow.

“As a compact, spacious model, the Golf Variant has already impressed more than 3 million customers since its debut in 1993. The latest generation inspires with its beautiful design and, with the most advanced cockpit in its segment, takes a giant step towards digitalisation. In addition, it scores high marks with efficient drives, maximum safety and significantly more space – the perfect family car. And those who are looking for something more sporty will love the new Golf Alltrack. As a crossover between the Golf Variant and an SUV, it offers the perfect combination of space, innovation and fun even off paved roads thanks to its all-wheel drive.”

The creation of the next generation of Golf Estate models meant improving dynamics, style and character – showing a clear relation to the recently launched new Golf 8 model. The redefined silhouette offers a coupe-type shape, with angles rear windows and a new longer wheelbase creating a sleek and low stance.

The new Golf Variant is also available in the highly desirable R Line trim, offering a spacious vehicle interior, lined with exceptionally advanced technology and comfort, whilst the impressive performance handles the enjoyable and smooth drive. The basic model’s enhanced standard features already include the Lane Assist lane departure warning system, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking System and Pedestrian Monitoring, the new oncoming vehicle braking when turning function, XDS electronic differential lock, the Car2X traffic hazard alert, the keyless comfort start system Keyless Start and automatic lighting control. Always as standard in the vehicle interior: Digital Cockpit Pro (digital instruments), Composition online infotainment system with 8.25-inch touchscreen, We Connect and We Connect Plus online services and functions, a multifunction steering wheel, Air Care Climatronic automatic air conditioner and a Bluetooth telephone interface.

The increased interior space accommodates five passengers comfortably, with an increased leg room of 48mm, the extra space is particularly noticeable in the rear seats. What’s more, added luggage volume offers 611 litres of space, so nothing needs to be left behind. The clever hands-free boot opening also adds an extra touch of convenience – simply wave your foot in front of the rear bumper.

When it comes to performance, a new 48 V belt-driven starter-alternator, 48 V lithium-ion battery and the TSI engine merge to forms a new mild hybrid drive system. Benefitting from a significantly lower consumption, as the Golf Variant switches off the turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine whenever possible to coast along without generating any local emissions. Thanks to the automatic dual clutch gearbox (7-speed DSG) included as standard in all eTSI models, added efficiency is also included due to economical gear shifts, preserving energy. TDI engines are also available with innovative technology cut nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) to make the soon-available TDI engines some of the world’s cleanest and most efficient diesel engines in the world.

When it comes to the new Golf Alltrack, the exterior design and overall performance combines the benefits of the Golf Variant and some of Volkswagen’s capable SUV models. With all-wheel drive (4MOTION) as standard, as well as higher ground clearance and a robust and rugged look, the Alltrack model is the perfect all-rounder. Specific bumpers and a custom interior to accommodate for more challenging journeys, beyond paved roads and when towing with a maximum trailer weight of 2,000 kg. The Golf Alltrack also matches the impressive specifications of the Golf Variant inside,  offering a digitalised cockpit, optional assist systems, such as Travel Assist (assisted driving up to 210 km/h) and the new IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights.

With each model in the Golf product range proving a complete success, the new estate models are set to be the latest generation to be built on the iconic hatchback. With the official launch on its way, don’t miss your chance to experience these exciting new models for yourself.
