The New Audi A7 Sportback

At the recent North American International Auto Show, held in Detroit, Audi displayed the second-generation Audi A7. Continuing with the design language that Audi introduced on the new Audi A8, the Audi A7 showcases the ‘Sportback’ interpretation of that design, with a sloped roof, angular grille and broad sides. Aspects of the design echo the first-generation A7 that debuted in 2009.

According to the Audi Head of Production Manager, Anthony Foulk, the A7 is targeted at a “more emotional buyer”, as people who are interested in a versatile car with plenty of space for personal belongings such as sports equipment, as well as athleticism and style.

The exterior of the new A7 features full-length LED taillights, a wider trapezoidal grille, thinner LED headlights. For an eye-catching finish, the headlights and taillights dance around when the A7 is locked or unlocked. Inside the A7 has a spacious cabin with luxurious detailing similar to the A8, with a huge rear trunk.

Anthony Foulk said: “The number one reason why people choose the A7 is because they like the design. They love the image. Second, they come for the versatility.”

The Audi A7 is expected to arrive this spring. At launch, the model will be offered with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine producing 3335hp, capable of reaching 62mph from standstill in 5.3 seconds. The engine will be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the quattro four-wheel-drive system.
