The Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Is Expected In 2022

A fully electric, contemporary take on the iconic VW microbus is set to be launched in 2022. The VW Camper started life in the 1960s as a symbol of peace and love, but was eventually discontinued in 2013 due to its lack of airbags and anti-lock brakes that contributed to the overall safety concerns.

First introduced in 2017, the redesigned microbus is fully electric and is called the I.D. Buzz. Volkswagen are planning to launch the vehicle after the I.D. SUV goes into production in 2019. The futuristic, sleek styling of the new microbus is continued inside, with a minimalist design throughout. Instead of knobs and buttons covering the dash, everything is controllable via a touchscreen mounted in the centre. In an innovative leap, the I.D. Buzz will be keyless, with access granted to the vehicle via your smartphone.

What’s more, Volkswagen are intending to introduce technology into the I.D. Buzz that could lead towards autonomous driving in the mid to late 2020s. Until that point, the new model will feature augmented reality features and laser scanners to assist the driving experience. The fully electric powertrain will be able to produce 369 horsepower, with the battery being able to run for 300 miles before needing to be recharged and even then, it will only take 30 minutes to be reach 80% capacity. The new microbus is expected to be able to reach 99mph and reach 60mph in 5 seconds.

Inside, passengers will be able to configure the layout to give them plenty of space, thanks to the rotating and moveable seats set in tracks on the floor. There will also be plenty of trunk space in both the front and back of the car.

Volkswagen aim to have the I.D. Buzz available in showrooms in 2022.
