Third Audi Victory in Bathurst 12 Hour

The Audi Sport customer racing team are celebrating their third overall win at the Bathurst 12 Hour competition after their 2011 and 2012 victories. Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing, said: “Sincere congratulations to our winners and to Audi Sport Team WRT who delivered an incredible race. They lost a lap at the beginning of the race, but never gave up, fought back and clinched a deserved victory.”

The debut of Vincent Vosse’s Belgian Audi Sport Team in the 12-hour race began with several setbacks. Firstly, radio communication issues limited the team’s strategic possibilities and they opted for a repair which lost them time but regained strategic strength. The trio of drivers were penalised for a violation during a yellow period, which resulted in a temporary one-lap deficit. The number 37 Audi unlapped itself thanks to some stunning driving skills and clever tactics.

The race was stopped by a red flag shortly before the finishing line, with Robin Frijns leading with a 1.5 second advantage. The red flag was due to an accident on the track involving several cars. From the fifth hour onwards, the Audi trio of drivers lead the race. At the finish, Audi number 22 crossed the finishing line first.

As such, Audi Sport customer racing had a successful start to the 2018 racing season, which should set them in good stead for the rest of the year.
