Volkswagen Touareg Receives Five-Star Euro NCAP Rating

The Volkswagen Touareg has received a five-star top rating from Euro NCAP.

A five-star rating from the European consumer protection organisation is the maximum possible rating. The luxury class SUV performed excellently in all categories during the demanding testing methods.

The Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) awarded the SUV high scores in each category – 89 percent in ‘Adult occupant safety’, 86 percent for ‘Child occupant safety’, 81 percent in ‘Safety assist’ and 72 percent in the ‘Vulnerable road users’ category.

The Volkswagen Touareg was first released in spring 2018, becoming the flagship SUV of the brand. It boasts the widest range of safety features and technologies that have ever been included in a Volkswagen, such as Night Vision, Traffic Jam and Roadwork Lane Assist, Front Cross Traffic Assist, LED matrix headlights and a head-up display.

Euro NCAP has been the benchmark of safety levels in new cars for the last 20 years and over the past few years the test programme’s criteria has become increasingly strict. Tested scenarios include front-end collisions with an aluminium barrier at 64 km/h and side impact at 50km/h into the vehicle’s side structure plus bollard side impact at 32km/h.
