Volvo Cars To Embed Google Apps In Next-Gen Infotainment System
Volvo Cars have announced their partnership with Google, with the aim of embedding voice-controlled Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store along with other Google services into Volvo’s next-generation Sensus infotainment system. This system will be based on Google’s Android operating system.
The Android Sensus system will be able to update apps and software in real-time, meaning future Volvo cars will be able to react to customer needs and offer up-to-date information and predictive services.
Henrik Green, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Volvo Cars, said: “Bringing Google Services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services. Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps that make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable.”
Google Maps will enable the next-gen Sensus to provide refreshed traffic and map data in real time, to keep drivers informed of traffic situations that lie ahead and can automatically suggest alternative routes to avoid delay.
Google Assistant offers a central voice interface for the car, giving the driver control of in-car functions including air conditioning, as well as apps that play music and send messages. This assistant function contributes to reducing driver distraction as it helps drivers keep their eyes on the road at all times.
Henrik Green continues: “The Google partnership to be entered into is an important strategic alliance for Volvo Cars. The Android platform, Google services and Google’s working relationship with app developers in-house and worldwide will help us further improve the Volvo car experience.”
