Volvo Hosts Special Design Event To Celebrate Line-Up
Volvo Cars hosted a special design event in Stockholm just before Christmas. Its three design heads, Thomas Ingenlath, Robin Page and Maximillian Missoni came together with their full range of new cars they had designed for the very first time.
This new range of models exemplifies the transformation of the company’s finances and operations in recent years. They have achieved five consecutive global sales records since 2014. Much of this success is due to the transformation of the look of the Volvo range, helping to rejuvenate the brand for a modern market.
The three designers are now set to focus on future design opportunities, keeping in mind the company’s move towards electrified and autonomous cars. The XC90 was the first model to feature Volvo’s new design language, setting the tone for the new 90, 60 and 40 Series cars. All three SUVs in the Volvo range won Car of the Year awards in North America, Asia and Europe.
Chief design officer, Thomas Ingenlath, explained “Working with Max and Robin is very pleasant. We feel comfortable around each other and it is inspiring working together.
Robin Page added “Before Max and I arrived at Volvo, Thomas created the strategy and then we built the team needed to deliver his vision. The result is here today, with a fantastic range of cars.”
Maximillian Missoni, head of exterior design, explained “I think we really elevated Volvo’s design into the premium segment. Thomas’ greatest strength is that he is a visionary and he has that sense for the next big thing. Robin has transformed the interior design and quality of Volvo to an absolute benchmark.”
Robin concluded that “A lot of that is about the design of the cars and the fact they represent Volvo and Scandinavia so well. Looking at the next generation of cars, it will be interesting to see how we embrace new technologies and create the essence of Scandinavian design in these new products.”
