Fabian Kreim Is ŠKODA's 2020 Ice Race Of Champions" Winner
The first weekend in February saw the 2020 GP Ice race in Austria’s Zell am See-Kaprun take place. German Rally Champion Kreim was the quickest out of four international rally aces who all drove identical 290 hp ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo cars. Around 16,000 race and rally fans were out in full force to watch three title winners and once Vice champion battle for the victory title over an action packed weekend.
Roughly 150 drivers in historic, modern and rally cars were competing, amongst the group were some well known drivers. Slovakian Champion Martin Koci, Fabian Kreim-winner of the German Rally Championship, local Austrian hero Julian Wagner-runner up in the 2019 Austrian Rally Championship and 2019 Junior Rally Champion/ ERC1 Filip Mareš.
Over the duration of the two days German Rally Champion Fabian Kreim had one victory and a second place finish but was the quickest driver overall. In order to win the unique, action packed race known as the “Ice Race of Champions”, the results of both Saturday and Sunday's races were added. With a second place finish on the Saturday and a victory on the Sunday, Julian Wagner finished second on the podium. Last person to take their position on the podium was Martin Koci from Slovakia finishing in third place.
European Junior Rally Champion Filip Mareš finished fourth overall, but took the race as an opportunity to prepare himself for a private entered ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo at the upcoming Rally Sweden taking place from 13th to 16th February.
Seven time Czech Rally Champion, 2018 WRCS Champion of 2018 and 2019 GP Ice Race category winner Jan Kopecký, entertained the crowd with demonstration runs on a SKODA FABIA Rally2 evo whilst enjoying his new role at the GP Ice Race 2020 as a young guns coach.
