ŠKODA OCTAVIA: New Mild Hybrid & Plug-in Hybrid Powertrains

The latest model of the best-selling ŠKODA OCTAVIA is available in two new alternative powertrains, in addition to the standard petrol and diesel variants. The OCTAVIA will now also be offered in a Plug-in Hybrid and a Mild Hybrid variant (a first for the brand).

The Mild Hybrid technology will be available in the ŠKODA OCTAVIA e -TEC, whilst the OCTAVIA iV and vRS iV will feature Plug-in Hybrid powertrains. Both new alternative powertrains have significantly reduced the new OCTAVIA’s CO2 emissions, making the fourth generation ŠKODA OCTAVIA the most sustainable yet. The iV and vRS iV models offer an all-electric, emissions free range of 60km according to the WLTP cycle.

With models available in both hatch and estate variants, as well as new versions of the sporty vRS, the OCTAVIA is perfect to suit any lifestyle. With a choice of front or all-wheel drive, manual or automatic DSG, the latest model can be configured to suit your needs.

In addition to the exceptional sustainability, flexibility and style, the new OCTAVIA is also leaping ahead in term of safety. Boasting a whole host of innovative and intelligent safety and assistance systems, the best-selling model is one of the safest on the road. From Park Assist, 360-degree camera, Adaptive Lane Assist and Local Traffic Warning to a new Head-up Display, the OCTAVIA is more advanced than ever.

“When developing the new OCTAVIA, we focused from the outset on considerably reducing the amount of aerodynamic drag as well as the CO2 and NOx emissions even further. As a result, the choice of powertrains available for the new OCTAVIA is greater than ever before. The car can be ordered as an e-TEC that features the new mild hybrid technology or as one of two iV plug-in hybrids. This way, we have achieved a significant boost in efficiency and sustainability, as well as the highest level of functionality and versatility. This means that the OCTAVIA, now in its fourth generation, impresses by providing just what our customers cherish so much.”

Available in the SE trim or higher, the OCTAVIA iV offers a power output of 204 PS and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, whilst the sporty vRS iv model delivers 245 PS and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. Powered by a 1.4 TFSI petrol engine and an 85-kW electric motor, partnered with a high-voltage lithium-ion battery, the new iV models can be charged from 0-80% in 3 hours and 45 minutes using a 230-V socket. However, just 3 hours and 33 minutes is needed for a full charge from the 3.6-kW Wallbox.

The OCTAVIA iV and vRS iV offer a number of driving modes to help optimise the petrol engine and electric motor, choosing the best combination based on the driving conditions. With E-mode perfect for urban traffic, Hybrid mode using a perfect combination of petrol and electric energy (as well as regenerative braking), and other useful driving modes to suit the situation.

The ŠKODA OCTAVIA e-TEC is a first for the brand, using the latest EVO-generation three-cylinder 1.0 TSI delivering 110 PS with a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry and using the efficient Miller combustion process. There is also a 1.5 TSI 150 PS model with a 48-V belt-driven starter motor and 48-V lithium-ion battery when combined with the 7-speed DSG. Thanks to advanced technology, the e-Tec model offers no need for external charging. The main benefit of the e-Tec Mild Hybrid technology is to offer an electrical boost of up to 50 Nm if required and to enable the e-TECs to coast with the engine completely disconnected, thus, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It also results in a smoother, quicker engine start up with less vibration.
