Volkswagen Commercial Unveils e-BULLI Concept Vehicle
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles recently revealed a new concept vehicle called the e-BULLI. The idea behind the model was to reinvent a 1966 classic with a 2020 electric engine.
The model was presented virtually for the first time in Hannover on 19th March 2020 and is based on the T1 Samba Bus, first produced in 1966. The all-electric concept vehicle produces zero emissions, equipped with the same drive system components of the latest Volkswagen electric models.
During the presentation it was confirmed that this concept vehicle will be available to buy for real, as Volkswagen Commercial’s partner eClassics plans to offer T1 conversions and T1 complete vehicles in the style of the e-BULLI.
The e-BULLI is more powerful than its predecessor, delivering 83PS instead of 44PS in 1966, plus its maximum torque of 212Nm offers more than twice the force of the original model. The e-BULLI’s top speed is an impressive 130km/h, whereas the original drive system only managed a top speed of 105km/h.
One full battery charge for the e-BULLI provides a range of more than 200 km, with ability to charge up to 80 percent in just 40 minutes when plugged in at a DC fast-charging point with up to 50kW of power.
The exterior and interior design of the e-BULLI has been created to be both stylish and avant-garde. It boasts two-tone paintwork in ‘Energetic Orange Metallic’ and ‘Golden Sand Metallic’, plus LED headlamps with daytime running lights. There is also a LED charge indicator on the outside, letting the diver know how much charge is left before the step inside.
Inside, the cabin space is bright and inviting with the room for eight and boasts a large panoramic folding roof. The inviting leather seats are also two-tone, in ‘Saint Tropez’ and ‘Saffrano Orange’. In the cockpit, the new speedometer is based on the original, with the addition of a two-digit display integrated into it. Further information comes from an integrated tablet in the roof console. Volkwagen ‘We Connect’ offers figures such as remaining charge time, current range, km travelled, trip times and energy consumption and recuperation. Entertainment comes in the form of a retro-style radio equipped with DAB+, Bluetooth and USB.
The starting price for an e-BULLI from eClassics is 64,900 euros.
