Euro NCAP Driving Assistance System Test: The Audi Q8 and Volvo V60 Achieve Top Ten
Here at Caffyns, we are proud of the impressive safety features available across our brands. The recent Euro NCAP Driving Assistance System test proved the semi-autonomous tech makes driving on our roads safer than ever.
The test was a first of its kind, with Euro NCAP partnering with Thatcham Research, in which the level of safety offered by driving assistance systems is judged. With several factors determining the outcome, we are pleased to say the Audi Q8 claimed a notable third place, whilst the Volvo V60 also landed in the top 10.
The Audi Q8 scored 83 for vehicle assistance, 78 for driver engagement and 84 for safety backup, making for a very impressive result. The Volvo V60 claimed a score of 71 for vehicle assistance, 78 for driver engagement and 49 for safety backup, also providing a great result.
Vehicle assistance measures the performance of the systems in a controlled environment, using scenarios with bends, approaching stationary cars and adaptive cruise control systems to create an overall score.
The driver engagement scores represent the level of education provided to the driver regarding the features and limitations of the system, as well as the operating instructions.
Finally, the safety backup category is scored based on the system performance of vehicles with blocked sensors, in addition to the amount of hand’s off time allowed by the systems. This score was also measured on the level of protection in the event of an emergency.
