The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric includes an array of pioneering technology and engineering. It will be able to travel more than 249 miles on a single charge and can be charged to 80% of its battery capacity in just 40 minutes, using a fast charger. The XC40 P8 offers an impressive performance, its twin electric motors produce 408hp and can travel from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds. Owners will find significant savings in running costs as well as tax benefits.
Kristian Elvesfors, Volvo Car UK’s Managing Directions comments: “For Volvo Cars, the future is electric. The battery-powered XC40 spearheads our ambitious sustainability strategy, while bringing the huge benefits of electric driving – and more – to an already award-winning package.”
There is plenty of space thanks to the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric clever design. The lack of an internal combustion engine has created an additional 30-litre of storage compartment or ‘frunk’ under the front bonnet. The batteries are placed under the centre of the car, so space has not been compromised. Inside, you will also find a number of clever space saving and storage features, including a removable waste bin, a fold-out hook in the glove compartment for bags and a useful boot divider complete with hooks for keeping shopping bags separate and upright. The speakers traditionally placed in the front doors have been moved to the base on the windscreen, creating space for a pair of sizeable front door bins. What’s more, the interior of the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric has a strong focus on sustainability, with the door lining and carpets made from 97% recycled plastic bottles.
This model is the first in the Volvo range to feature the brand-new infotainment system powered by Google Android. It will allow complete personalisation and an increased intuitiveness and new embedded Google technologies and services. Google Maps, Google Assistant and other automotive apps will be built in. What’s more, for the first time on a Volvo car the software and operating system can update over the air, meaning the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric will improve over its lifetime rather than being at its peak when it leaves the factory.
Arguably one of the safest cars on the market. The safety engineers at Volvo Cars have totally redeveloped the frontal crash structure, whilst introducing a new and unique safety structure for the passengers and battery. It is also the first Volvo to feature a new version of Pilot Assist, that assist with steering, acceleration and braking support.
The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric also marks a major milestone for Volvo Cars’ electrification strategy, as part of their long term ambitions Volvo Cars want to be climate-neutral by 2040, and to reduce all tailpipes emissions by 50% per car, and for half off all new vehicles it sells globally to be pure electric, by 2025.
