Volvo XC90 Wins Hybrid Seven-Seater of the Year Award

Volvo’s flagship model, the XC90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T8, has been awarded the title of Hybrid Seven-Seater of the Year at the first What Car? Electric Awards.

The award comes after the luxury SUV also won Best Plug-in Hybrid at the general What Car? Awards in both 2019 and 2020, as well as Best Used Hybrid in 2019.

The XC90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T8 was praised by What Car? for its blend of luxury, practicality and performance. The model has the ability to accelerate from 0 – 62mph in 5.8 seconds, with CO2 emissions from as low as 63g/km and up to 100.9mpg. The model’s seven individual seats make it flexible choice for families, whilst also offering benefit-in-kind tax rates from just 15% for company car drivers.

Describing the winner, What Car? explained that the XC90 Recharge T8 is an “outstanding plug-in hybrid package.”

“Luxurious, spacious and quick, the Recharge T8 provides plenty of reasons to recommend it. Not least, the fact you should be able to cover around 20 miles in real-world driving conditions on pure electric power alone.”

The model combines a 303hp 2.0 litre petrol engine with an 87hp electric motor in the most potent powertrain in the XC90 range. Available in two grades, R-Design and Inscription as well as higher specification ‘Pro’ versions of both, drivers can enjoy standard specification including four-zone climate control, LED headlights, heated front seats, and rear parking camera.

Sensus connectivity offers a nine-inch touchscreen, voice control, navigation services and access to Volo On Call services. The Volvo City Safety package is also available as standard on all grades and versions.

“As our flagship model, the XC90 Recharge T8 is the ultimate expression of what we are striving to achieve, in advanced electrified powertrains, design, connectivity, safety and premium quality. We highly value this latest award from What Car?, which acknowledges the successful application of our plug-in hybrid technology to a large, luxury SUV.”
