CUPRA has joined Volkswagen's Group initiative for greater road safety. The Tavascan, Born, and Raval customers will utilise sensor and image data and information from real traffic situations to enhance driver assistance systems and automated driving functions.
There is data from 40 European countries' contributing to improved road safety. Vehicles utilised anonymised data to create high-resolution maps. This ensures vehicles have lane guidance without lane markings whilst driving and enables precise driving recommendations and hazard alerts.
CUPRA aims to use data from real-life driving situations to further support driver assistant functions. These active systems are to enhance the safety for all road users. The all-electric vehicles from CUPRA have a suite of advanced safety features which will add to the data collected for the Volkswagen Group initiative.
They are focusing on situations which are useful for the driver assistance systems. These include situations with cyclistics and pedestrians on roads or busy carparks. Data transmission is triggered with the emergency braking assistance, manual full braking, and sudden evasive manoeuvres. The data can be taken from camera images of the vehicle's surroundings, and results from the environment sensors.
The vehicles should look for movements by detecting if pedestrians are moving towards the street and proactively build brake pressure for faster braking in an emergency situation.
Customer consent is fundamental to the processing of the data. CUPRA customers are able to give consent with the My CUPRA App and it can be revoked at any time by the customer.
