Lotus Unveils First Concept Car

Lotus has introduced Theory 1, its concept car that represents the future of intelligent performance vehicles. By seamlessly integrating core design principles with Lotus's latest innovations and advanced technologies, Lotus simplifies and elevates the driving experience. Theory 1 is designed to fit perfectly around the driver, adapting to their needs and providing the ultimate driving experience.

“With Theory 1, we’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far in its 76-year history, to push the boundaries for what it means to drive a performance vehicle. We want to demonstrate that you don’t need to compromise – with both digital and analogue capabilities working harmoniously in the future car. In doing this, we are able to bring drivers the best possible immersive driving experience with raw emotion, functionality and connectivity, at the core.”

- Ben Payne, Vice President of Design, Lotus Group

Lotus has created its proprietary driver system, LOTUSWEAR™, an immersive experience designed to personalise the journey for every occupant. This system aims to evoke raw emotion and pure excitement, forging a deeper connection between the driver and the road. This incorporates an adaptive, soft, and lightweight robotic textile that allows the car to communicate with both the driver and passengers, enhancing the overall in-car experience. It features inflatable pods in the seating and steering wheel that respond in real-time, providing additional support, grip, and subtle prompts through personalised haptic feedback.

Theory 1 builds on Lotus’s engineering expertise to deliver an electric car that performs outstandingly while boosting driver confidence through a fun and engaging experience. It features advanced active and passive aerodynamic techniques, such as cooling systems, an active rear spoiler, and a passive rear underbody. Together with a low centre of gravity, these elements enhance stability and contribute to the vehicle's lightweight feel. Additionally, Theory 1 features a three-seater configuration with a central driving position, flanked by two passengers behind the driver. Drawing inspiration from motorsports, the central seat offers optimal visibility of the road and ensures easy access to all controls.
