MG Introduces SolidCore Battery
MG SolidCore Battery

MG has opened the new European Engineering Centre in Germany as a key hub for delivering their “in Europe, for Europe” strategy. It has also built on their engineering innovation in electric vehicle battery technology with the new SolidCore battery.

MG have focused on expanding their presence in Europe over recent years. The opening of the new hub will focus on developing vehicles for the specific needs of European customers which will include regional climate conditions, road environments and driving lifestyles. MG’s presence has expanded with cumulative sales reaching one million vehicles.

The introduction of the SolidCore battery makes MG one of the first manufacturers to mass produce semi-solid-state batteries. With consumers expecting longer ranges and better performance, MG have created the SolidCore battery with this in mind. It is set to offer rapid charging, enhanced cold-weather performance all year-round and great range certainty.

Solid-state electrolytes form a protective barrier to extend the battery lifespan as well as ensure full compliance with future regulatory standards. Vehicles are able to start without preheating and it also provides an improved acceleration compared to other conventional EV’s in similar conditions.

It is to be introduced in MG electric vehicles in Europe towards the end of 2026.

MG have also sold 300% over their 2024 hybrid sales with 137,000 sold in 2025. The Hybrid+ technology utilises advanced software and hardware to ensure optimal fuel consumption and a more seamless integration between the mechanics and electrification.

Additionally, it features a larger 1.83kWh High-Capacity core battery for increased electric-only range and a 3-speed hybrid transmission. This ensures a smooth and responsible power delivery for a stronger performance.

“MG’s new SolidCore Battery and Hybrid+ technology provide tangible benefits for our customers and position our vehicles at the forefront of their class. These advancements reinforce MG’s commitment to making cutting-edge technology and electric mobility more intuitive, accessible, and widely available. Our strategy of developing MG vehicles in Europe, for Europe further enhances the desirability, versatility, and value that our cars deliver to customers across the European market.”
