Volvo have unveiled the new and improved XC90, which features a whole host of technology and design updates, both inside and out.
The premium plug-in hybrid seven-seater vehicle offers drivers more than 70km of fully electric range on a single charge, meaning many owners will be able to carry out most of the day-to-day travel with zero tailpipe emissions. For longer trips, the hybrid powertrain pairs with an efficient petrol engine, extending the range by more than 800km.
The model’s exterior design has been updated to reflect its transition towards electrification, echoing elements from Volvo’s newest, fully-electric cars. Inside, the interior has been enhanced to offer an exceptional user experience. The addition of a larger central touchscreen with higher resolution offers new features, apps and regular over-the-air updates.
The model’s dashboard has been given a more horizontal shape, incorporating decorative panels made from premium recycled materials, teamed with enhanced illumination for luxurious nighttime driving. For an exceptional soundtrack on every journey, the XC90 offers the Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system.
In response to current XC90 owners' feedback, the cabin has been reconfigured to offer even more practical storage space in the centre console, including an additional cupholder. The wireless phone charger has been moved behind the central tunnel, separate from the main storage area, for greater convenience.
Comfort in the XC90 is now better than ever, offering incredibly comfortable seats and improved suspension as standard. Each individual damper can adapt mechanically to current road conditions, optimising comfort and stability round every turn. Optional air suspension works together with an active chassis, monitoring the car, road and driver 500 times per second to give the most comfortable ride possible. Extra insulation in the car also ensures less wind and road noise.
"The new XC90 exudes confidence, and why wouldn’t it? Our hybrid flagship has been one of our best-selling models for years and it’s still a favourite among many customers. Whether it’s comfort, space, luxury, versatility or hybrid efficiency you look for, the XC90 delivers on all accounts. Put together, the XC90 and its fully electric EX90 sibling provide customers with the options that suit them best and equip us with a balanced portfolio as we continue our transition towards full electrification.”
- Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars
As with every Volvo, the XC90 is one of the safest cars available on the market. It is equipped with an advanced safety cage and a comprehensive range of features to keep driver and passengers safe. Its radar and front camera can detect if you drift into the oncoming lane and steer you safely back. It also uses braking and steering to help avoid collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.
The new Volvo XC90 is now available to order, with production scheduled to begin in late 2024. First customer deliveries are expected to start around the end of the year.
