Volvo is set to launch their next fully electric model, the ES90, in a few weeks’ time.
The ES90 will be the first Volvo model equipped with a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, making it the most powerful Volvo yet in terms of computing capacity. The model raises the bar for safety and overall performance through data, software and AI. The software designed car will continuously evolve and improve through core computing technology, constant connectivity and data.
DRIVE AGX Orin is NVIDIA’s core computer for intelligent cars, orchestrating various essential systems and processes in the car at ultra-fast speeds. At around 508 trillion operations per second, it manages functions such as AI based, state-of-the-art active safety features, car sensors and efficient battery management. This core computer is a vast improvement to the previous DRIVE AGX Xavier system, enabling an increase from 40 million to 200 million parameters, with an overall goal of improving customer experience and safety levels.
The ES90 is built on the SPA2 architecture and follows the EX90 by being based on the Volvo Cars Superset tech stack. The Superset tech stack consists of one single set of hardware and software modules and systems, which underpin all upcoming Volvo electric cars. It allows improvements to be made more efficiently via over-the-air updates, to each car in the line-up simultaneously. Updates may include new connectivity features, safety improvements, and general elevated performance, such as better battery range in certain situations.

Th ES90 features an array of sensors so it can better understand its surroundings, including one lidar, five radars, seven cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, as well as a driver-understanding system inside the car. This Safe Space Technology detects obstacles and activates proactive safety measures to help avoid accidents and hazards on the road.
