Audi has recently launched the new Audi A5 range, including a Saloon and Avant model to replace the outgoing A4/S4 and A5/S5 models. The New A5 range offers premium design, new and improved technology, including ultra-efficient combustion engines, sophisticated electronic architecture, and the latest Audi styling. Described as more generously proportioned and comprehensively equipped than their predecessors, the new A5 models are the first Audi models to be built on the new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).
The A5 Saloon and A5 Avant are now available to order, and first deliveries are expected in November. The A5 Saloon is available from £41,950 (OTR) and the A5 Avant from £43,850 (OTR). All the models in the A5 range will initially be available with a choice of Sport, S line, and Edition 1 specification, while the S5 Saloon and Avant will be offered exclusively in Edition 1 trim.
The overall design of the A5 range is more dynamic and premium. The exterior is characterised by a low, sporty silhouette with short overhangs and quattro-inspired framing of the large wheels, demonstrating a more athletic appearance, greater character, and luxurious design. Inside, the styling continues with a fresh design, from maximising the interior space to creating a premium comfort and feel, from materials to connectivity. At the heart of the cabin is a curved, free-standing OLED panoramic MMI display integrating an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen, known as the Digital Stage.
All models within the range feature an extensive equipment list, and the entry-level Sport version features an array of technology and connectivity upgrades. Along with the Digital Stage, additional features include an app store within the Audi smartphone interface, Audi Assistance, and AI voice assistance, which recognises over 800 voice commands. You will also find several driver assistance features, including upgrades to the adaptive cruise control and the introduction of parking assistance, which can take care of steering, accelerating, and braking during manoeuvres, including parallel and perpendicular parking.
The next level trim is the S line, which is instantly recognisable by new rear-mounted red badging, striking S line exterior styling, privacy glass, and upgraded 19” inch wheels with 5-twin V-spoke design. Inside, the styling continues with a new 3-spoke multifunction flattened steering wheel, S-line finishes including hallmarks on the sports seats, stainless steel pedals and illuminated S door sill inserts, and a black headlining.
At the top of the range is the Edition 1 trim, which enhances the S line trim even further. Features available on this trim include 20-inch 5-arm fold Audi Sport alloy wheels complemented by the red brake calipers. Available with a black styling pack including black door handles, mirrors, and, in the Avant version, you will benefit from roof rails. Matrix LED headlights continue the luxurious design, with eight different lighting signature options.
At its launch, the A5 range will be powered by three state-of-the-art TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines, two 2.0-litre TFSI options with 150 PS and 204 PS, and a 2.0-litre TDI with 204 PS. The New S5 Saloon and S5 Avant are available with a newly developed 3.0 litre V6 TFSI engine, featuring optimised combustion technology and 367PS, replacing the previous 3.0 litre TDI unit. The 2.0 litre TDI and 3.0 litre V6 TFSI are the first combustion engines to be partially electrified using the new 48-volt MHEV Plus system for improved efficiency and responsiveness, including reducing CO2 emissions by up to 17 g/km on WLTP cycle tests.
