This year marks the 25th anniversary of the SEAT Leon and to celebrate, the fourth-generation model has been launched.
The SEAT Leon has always been a benchmark in technology, design and equipment in the compact car category. Since its launch in 1999, more than 2.5 million units have been sold worldwide. This makes it one of the SEAT’s most successful models, developed and produced entirely in Barcelona.
The first-generation model was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, marking the brand’s triumphant return to the compact car segment. It was the first SEAT model to feature four-wheel drive, powered with a six-speed gearbox and delivering up to 180hp.
The second-generation was redesigned by Walter de Silva in 2005, boasting a more aerodynamic design and more efficient engines, whilst still offering impressive performance. The third-generation model was a turning point for the model and the brand as a whole, becoming the first compact car to integrate full LED lighting. This exciting combination of outstanding technology and exceptional design made it extremely popular and is the bestselling generation of the Leon to date, selling over 1 million units.
The new, fourth-generation SEAT Leon, launched for the 25th anniversary, is the most technologically advanced model yet, as it Is the brand’s very first 100% connected vehicle. Customers can choose from five different powertrains, including the e-HYBRID with 1.5 litre engine and an impressive electric range of up to 133km. The model also features fast charging abilities in just 26 minutes, as well as improved safety and lighting systems. Innovative Matrix LED headlights provide exceptional visibility without dazzling other drivers.
Since the SEAT Leon’s debut, it has won many awards including ‘Car of the Year’ in 2014 and 2021 in Spain, as well as ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Family Car of the Year’ in Portugal. In Argentina in 2021, it was awarded ‘Import Car od the Year’. The Leon’s sporting personality has also led to awards on the racetrack, with the second-generation Leon winning back-to-back World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) titles in 2008 and 2009.
Beyond the track, the Leon has also made some guest appearances in various films such as 3 Days to Kill and Men in Black: International. It has also starred in TV shows Dark and Sherlock.
