Audi have launched their first ever high-performance plug-in hybrid with a system output of up to 639PS and top speed of 177mph. With everyday driving, the New RS 5 can rely on electric driving alone. Audi has also created one of the first in the world to use Dynamic Torque Control with a rear transaxle to make for a more responsive drive.

Motorsport performance that has been designed for the road is shown through the Audi RS 5. It features a muscular stance, three-dimensional Singleframe with a honey-comb grille and Air Curtains to control the airflow. There is a sporty finish with the RS sport exhaust oval tailpipes and aerodynamic diffuser at the rear.
The darkened Matrix LED headlights and the digital day-time-running-light signatures are featured in a checkered-flag design.
Additionally, as the first production of the RS model, it will feature a modular electrified powertrain. The Audi RS 5 has a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor outputting 130kW with a hybrid eight-speed gearbox.
There is the option to upgrade to the Audi Sport package which adds a dynamic front and rear bumper and two-tone diamond-cut phantom black 21-inch wheels with matte accents. The interior features Serpentine green stitching for an exclusive look.
The new driving functions allow the driver access to view detailed analysis of the routes driven which will be displayed on the 14.5-inch MMI touch display. Additionally, users will be able to analyse and store sector times at the racetrack. The 10.9-inch passenger display emphasises the digital experience by allowing them access to help operate the vehicle and navigation functions.
For the first time, water-to-air intercoolers are used, helping to lower intake temperatures under intense conditions. Therefore this ensures that maximum power is always available at the tap of the driver’s right foot.
It is powered by a battery with a capacity of 25.9kWh with an impressive acceleration of 3.6 seconds, reaching 0-62mph. It has been designed for everyday driving and on the track, offering the driver a quiet drive in town and being able to explore its powerful delivery.
With AC charging, the plug-in hybrid charges at 11kW, reaching 100% charge in 2.5 hours. The temperature of the battery maintains an ideal setting with the intelligent thermal management to ensure constant power delivery.
The electro-mechanical torque vectoring ensures there is a balance between agility, stability and traction. When driving in a straight line, the system splits this evenly between both wheels. The torque differential will use a stabilising effect for high directional stability when rounding a corner. For the highest level of control, the RS 5 reacts precisely with the steering inputs in any condition and on any surface.
For a sporty and comfortable ride, the RS 5 features new RS sport suspension with twin-valve shock absorbers. This ensures balanced handling. They were tested on the road, racetrack and in a special test facility, on a hydro pulse system, to ensure they work under extreme conditions.
The various driving modes ensure versatility. In dynamic mode, the RS 5 is direct and immediate with its responses to steering and throttle. This is ideal for a sporty and direct driving experience.
The RS torque rear mode offers maximum rear bias and controlled drifts on closed courses. A high proportion of torque is directed to the outside rear wheel making the RS 5 agile whilst maintaining full control.
When driving in RS sport mode, this offers maximum propulsion without compromise. The vehicle ensures agility with corners and control even at high speeds.
Finally, the RS individual mode can be tailored to the driver’s preference. Customers are able to configure the steering, suspension, throttle response of engine and electric motor, the sound, ESC, and the electro-mechanical torque vectoring.
The design of the RS 5 features a muscular build with a wide stance. The honeycomb grille stands out at the front. The wheel cutouts have been sculpted to protrude from the shoulder line for a powerful presence. There is one of nine colours to choose from but also customers will have the option to customise their car with effect colours.
The interior matches the luxury of the exterior. Featuring spot seats with honeycomb quilting for added comfort with electric adjustments and massage functions. Customers will also have the choice to personalise the interior from five distinct interior designs.
