Production is due to start later this summer for the new and fully electric ES90 which is being produced with climate-neutral energy. Volvo cars are developed with sustainability in mind and the new ES90 materials have been detailed in the Life Cycle Assessment report which contribute to the car’s carbon footprint over its life cycle.
For the ES90, the total carbon footprint is 31 tonnes when using a European energy mix to charge it. If using wind energy, this falls to 26 tonnes. The ES90’s footprint is 50% lower than the Volvo S90 mild hybrid variant and 30% lower than a plug-in hybrid S90.

Volvo was one of the first to release LCA reports for its fully electric models. With a holistic approach in mind, the ES90 is a move towards sustainability by being the first Volvo car to be equipped with the new 800-volt electric system. It has been designed to be more efficient with a drag coefficient of 0.25.
Volvo have continued with their mission of sustainability as the ES90 is built with 29% recycled aluminium, 18% recycled steel and 16% recycled polymers and bio-based materials in the cabin.
