TIME recently named the EX90’s driver understanding system as one of the best inventions of 2024. Every year TIME releases a list of Best Inventions, featuring 200 innovations that is believes are changing and enhancing our lives.
The driver understanding system, which comes as standard on the new, fully electric EX90, was the winner in the Automotive category. The technology is a pioneering new safety feature, which uses real-time sensing technology to detect if the driver is impaired, tired or distracted, so the car can step in if necessary.
If the system detects a change in behaviour, the EX90 will alert the driver with a soft nudge, followed by more consistent notifications if the nudge doesn’t have the desired effect. In case of the driver falling asleep or another emergency situation, the system can slowly stop the car and turn on the hazard lights to warn other drivers.
