For the upcoming model year, there will be two main tech upgrades for Volvo XC40, EX40, EC40, V60 and V90 models.
Volvo is introducing a new generation, new look user experience to the whole line-up, as well as the ultra-fast Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The platform creates a faster and more responsive infotainment system. As well as this, the EX30, EX40 and EC40 models in Europe will get the Plug & Charge service for an even smoother public charging process.
Starting this year, models will come equipped with the new Volvo Car UX. It will also be delivered to millions of models equipped with Google built in, through an over-the-air software update. The update aims to provide a safe and enjoyable way to interact with the car’s infotainment system, providing more focused and personalised options than ever before.
Apps drivers use most often, such as maps, media and phone, will be placed on the home screen for quicker access. The contextual bar will also change what drivers see according to the situation, displaying the most recently used apps. The driver display, located behind the steering wheel, has also been updated with a larger and clearer navigation view.

The next generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform upgrade makes the existing Google Android Auto-based infotainment system much faster and more responsive. Models with this fitted will be more than twice as fast, with graphics generation up to 10 times faster. This new platform will also be added to the new XC90 SUV this year.

Lastly, Plug & Charge will be added to this year’s EX30, EX40 and EX40 cars in Europe. This authentication and billing system simplifies the charging experience. It is set up and activated via the car, making it easy to find compatible charging stations using Google Maps on the car’s central display or the Volvo Cars app. These stations identify your car and its associated payment method as soon as you connect the charging cable to your car. Charging will then start automatically, with no need for additional cards or authentication for a seamless payment.
