In a recent road test carried out by Volkswagen Team Switzerland, the all-electric 1D.7 Pro successfully covered a total of 794 kilometres (493 miles) with a single battery charge. The total driving time was 15 hours and 42 minutes.
This distance significantly exceeds the tested model’s maximum WLTP range (combined) of up to 709 kilometres (440 miles). The ID.7 Pro was driven on an 81-kilometre circuit in the Zug metropolitan area south of Zurich, facing traffic, main roads and motorway sections to reflect everyday driving routes.
Eight different drivers covered the 15 hour drive over two consecutive days on just one battery charge. The average consumption was impressively low at 10.3kWh / 100km. In diesel terms, this would equate to around 1.1 litres per 100km. The average speed of the drive was 51km/h.
One of the eight drivers was Felix Egolf, a so-called hypermiler who is an expert in energy-efficient driving. In 2020 and 2021, the Swiss driver completed two record-breaking drives in the ID.3. The first was a drive from Saxony, Germany to Schaffhausen in Switzerland, covering 531km and exceeding theoretical range. The second was with the ID.3 Pro S, covering 602km on a single charge across 15 Alpine passes and 13,000 metres of altitude.
The ID.7 Pro’s 86-kWh battery is designed to offer the greatest possible efficiency, boasting one of the highest ranges in its class. Thanks to new efficiency drive and excellent aerodynamics (a drag coefficient of 0.23), the model proves that it is economical on the road. With the most range-favourable equipment, the WLTP range is up to 709km. Charging times are also impressively short, with the ability to charge 244 km using a 200kW charger in just 10 minutes. It can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 26 minutes.
The ID.7 Pro’s optional Electric Vehicle Route Planner is a helpful addition to the model, calculating the optimum route by taking into account real-time traffic data, the current battery charge and available charging stations along the way. The planner shows the driver the best charging points and plans charging stops for optimum efficiency.
