Volvo is on a mission to enhance safety in real-world situations. They have unveiled a major improvement with the world's first multi-adaptive safety belt.
This will be in action on the upcoming fully electric Volvo EX60 in 2026. It has been designed with different traffic situations in mind, and looks to better protect people after gathering data from the car’s advanced sensors. Data is inputted from the interior and exterior sensors to make it entirely customisable and suitable to the setting based on factors such as: the persons height, weight, body shape and their seating position.

This has been created with the support of over 5 decades worth of safety research and 80,000 occupants who were involved in real-life accidents to help capture the essence of the multi-adaptive safety belt. Furthermore, it showcases the innovation of Volvo in creating safety precautions based on real-world data. It will be able to share the information gathered regarding the direction, speed and passenger posture with the safety belt to create the most protective setting.
It is designed to continuously be improved upon via the over-the-air software updates. This highlights Volvo’s intention to improve their understanding about safety. It is to work in conjunction with the airbags, occupant detection and the driver assistance systems to enhance the effectiveness of the safety precautions.
The multi-adaptive belt has been tested at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre crash lab and will be on the upcoming electric Volvo EX60 coming in 2026.
