Volvo has launched the largest over-the-air software across 2.5 million Volvo cars in 85 countries around the world. This is known as Volvo Car UX which will feature a more user-friendly layout for the car’s central display for a faster and more intuitive experience for customers to interact with their cars.
Volvo cars, from 2020, with Google built-in will also receive the upgrade on their Volvo cars free of charge. This is part of Volvo’s strategy to make its cars better over time with regular software updates.

The new user experience aims to make drivers' experience more comfortable and intuitive with fewer clicks to reach their most-used features. The new layout also utilises an easier and refreshed navigation, created from real-world research and feedback from customers.
Each Volvo will benefit from the comprehensive infotainment update. This ensures each user experience follows the consistent design philosophy across all Volvo car models, regardless if it’s three years old or brand-new.
The content displayed on the screen features the most common apps and controls on the home screen so drivers are able to utilise another app, such as music, without having to leave Google Maps when accessing the media feature. Drivers will also see apps most recently used and an icon for outside cameras when manoeuvring into tight spaces.
Plug-in hybrid drivers will also be able to access the ‘Drive Modes’ on the home screen so switching from hybrid to electric-only power is only one tap away, ensuring convenience when driving.
The update will also feature conversational AI with Google Gemini later this spring.
